What to wear to Kentucky Derby 2026. Fashion advice for women, men
A look at fashion trends for men and women ahead of the 152nd Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs.
Olivia Hanson began selling fashion-related items online from her mother’s basement last summer. With diligent work, she officially opened the Livie Ann Boutique storefront in mid-September in downtown Aberdeen.
“I’ve always loved boutiques, fashion and connecting with people, and I’ve always enjoyed selling, so opening a boutique felt like the perfect fit for me,” Hanson told the Aberdeen News. “While this is my first storefront, running the online boutique gave me hands-on experience in the industry.”
In the past, Hanson also worked at multiple boutiques, giving her a feel for the industry.
“I started Livie Ann Boutique to bring new styles to the area — fashion that hadn’t been done here before,” she explained. “That helps people feel confident and excited about what they’re wearing.”
A recent graduate of Northern State University with a degree in Business Administration and minors in Marketing and Entrepreneurship, Hanson claims, while a student, she built a strong foundation in business strategy, marketing and running a small business. These are skills that Hanson says she now uses every day as an owner while also growing her boutique.
Livie Ann Boutique is currently run by Olivia and her sister, Ava.
“My favorite part of running the boutique is getting to help people see fashion differently and encouraging them to wear what makes them feel confident,” she said. “I love bringing in trends and styles that Aberdeen hasn’t seen before, including pieces that are typically hard to find locally. I tell everybody that I deal with clothes and people all day; nothing can go wrong!”
She explains that the most challenging part of running the boutique is managing all aspects of the business at once, from buying and marketing to day-to-day operations.
“But it’s also what makes owning the boutique so rewarding,” she added.
Hanson expresses gratitude to her close friends and family for always pushing her to pursue her goals and for the constant support along the way.
“From helping when needed, to answering all of my phone calls, they’ve been there every step of the journey, and they know who they are,” she said.
Livie Ann Boutique is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. It is closed on Sundays.
The boutique is located at 114 S. Main St., Suite #2 in Aberdeen and can be reached at (605) 377-3910.
